The assessment of the Edexcel AS Level Maths is based on 2 written papers that are outlined below.

Edexcel AS Mathematics Paper 1: Pure Mathematics (Paper code: 8MA0/01)

Paper 1 will count for 62.5% of the overall AS grade and will be 2 hours in duration.  There are a possible maximum of 100 marks.  Calculators can be used in the assessment.

Content will include:

Proof

Algebra and functions

Coordinate Geometry in the (x,y) plane

Sequences and series

Trigonometry

Exponentials and logarithms

Differentiation

Integration

Vectors

Edexcel AS Mathematics Paper 2: Statistics and Mechanics (Paper code: 8MA0/02)

Paper 2 will count for 37.5% of the overall AS grade and will be 1 hours 15 minutes in duration.  There are a possible maximum of 60 marks.  Calculators can be used in the assessment.

The assessment comprises two sections.  Content will include:

Section A:  Statistics:  Statistical sampling, Data presentation and interpretation, Probability, Statistical distributions, and Statistical hypothesis testing.

Section B:  Mechanics:  Quantities and units in mechanics, Kinematics, Forces and Newton’s laws.

Paper 2 will count for 33.33% of the overall A Level grade and will be 2 hours in duration.
