OCR AS Level Further Mathematics H235 & H245.
The assessment of the OCR AS Level Further Maths is based on 2 written papers that are outlined below. Content will vary depending on options taken by the Student.
These overarching themes are applied across the content:
- Mathematical argument, language and proof
- Mathematical problem solving
- Mathematical modelling
AS Further Mathematics Pure core 1 (Y531)
Paper 1 is a mandatory paper and will count for 33.33% of the overall AS grade and will be 1 hour 15 minutes in duration.
There are a possible maximum of 75 marks from assessment of content from pure core and all of the overarching themes.
AS Further Mathematics Paper 2 (Option)
Students must take Paper One and any two of the following optional papers to be awarded the AS Level. (Please note, students may take more than two optional papers to increase the breadth of their course. The combination of papers that results in the best grade will be used.)
Options are as follows:
Statistics (Y532), Mechanics (Y533), Discrete mathematics (Y534), Additional pure mathematics (Y535).
Each option within Paper 2 will count for 33.33% of the overall AS grade and will be 1 hour 15 minutes in duration.
There are a possible maximum of 60 marks assessing the 2 optional contents chosen along with all of the overarching themes.

Examinations are based on varying options of 3 written papers. Content will vary according to options chosen by the Student.
Content will be as follows:
1.Core Pure content
2. Major options
• Mechanics Major (Y421)
• Statistics Major (Y422)
3. Minor options
• Mechanics Minor (Y431)
• Statistics Minor (Y432)
• Modelling with Algorithms (Y433)
• Numerical Methods (Y434)
• Extra Pure (Y435)
• Further Pure with Technology (Y436)
To gain OCR’s A Level in Further Mathematics B (MEI) students will be required to take one of three routes: Route A, B or C.
Route A: Students are required to take the compulsory Core Pure and Mechanics Major papers along with one further optional minor paper (this paper must not be Mechanics Minor).
Route B: For route B candidates must sit 2 compulsory papers: Mandatory Core Pure and Statistics Major. They must also take one optional minor paper which cannot be the Statistics Minor paper.
Route C: Here, students sit the mandatory Core Pure paper examination, alongside three more minor optional papers.
